They only ask for a pediatrician

It seems incredible that this situation happens today in Spain.

In some rural towns of Zamora such as Madridanos, Morales del Vino, Moraleja, Villaralbo, Arcenillas or El Perdigón, as well as in the towns of Corrales, Santa Clara de Avedillo, or Villanueva de Campeán, families collect signatures to request pediatric assistance five days a week, Monday through Friday.

At present, these regions depend on the health center of Zamora Sur, where they only go in case of emergencies and the pediatric consultation on Mondays and Thursdays exclusively for reviews.

As the mother of two little girls who have a week in between (and more in winter) have something, I sympathize with the need of these people who only ask for something as basic as having specialized care for their children five days a week.

I think, if a child gets sick on a Tuesday, do you have to wait until Thursday to go to the office, and over miles from home? And that if he gets an appointment because for that height and with the few pediatricians that will be in the area, the shifts will all be given.

The lack of pediatricians in Spain is not an exclusive problem of these regions. The same situation moves to many corners of the country. The causes could be, among other reasons, that professionals find it more attractive to move to work in large cities, but public health should offer them good conditions so that attending rural areas is equally attractive.

Because it seems to be forgotten that health, and even more so when it comes to children, is an issue that cannot be spared.
