The importance of monitoring dental injuries

When a child suffers a fall, the mouth may be injured, causing breakage or the exit of one or more teeth. After the initial shock and urgent medical attention, which will determine the best way to act in the accident, the child's dental injuries should be monitored.

Mouth care is also essential. Good healing after an injury to the teeth and oral tissues depends, in large part, on good oral hygiene. And is that proper hygiene is important for the good prognosis of the traumatized tooth.

Recall that, in any case, to prevent the accumulation of plaque and food debris it is suggested to brush the teeth with a soft brush after each meal. The specialist will recommend us if it is necessary for the child to have some additional rinse.

If the child has received a blow that has broken the tooth and the fragment has been reimplanted, we will have to take care that the brush goes over it gently.

Before the appearance of possible complications such as abscesses or infections, fistulas or color changes the child should be seen, as soon as possible, by his pediatric dentist.

It is important to monitor the child who has suffered a trauma until the permanent tooth has erupted. The specialist will carry out controls where the healing of the mucous lesions can be appreciated and a clinical examination will be performed.

In the periodontal ligament lesions (the fibers that are fixed in the alveolar bone at one end and in the cement of the tooth on the other) a new check will be carried out to verify that there is no mobility and that the tooth has repositioned.

Definitely, good follow-up of children's dental injuries is important to control the vitality of the tooth or the evolution of wounds, implants, etc. and that there are no complications.
