He shortage of syrup for children occurs in its dispensation of 20 mg / ml, which is usually given to younger children, while the 40 mg / ml dispensation can be achieved. Dalsy syrup, whose main active ingredient is the ibuprofenIt is a medication widely used by parents for the relief of occasional pain or fever in children from three months to 12 years.

Giving medication to children is not an easy task, but Dalsy, thanks to its sweet orange flavor, is one of the best accepted by little ones, and they take it without much trouble. But its shortage worries parents who seek alternatives to give your children.

Why don't you get Dalsy 20 mg / mk?

What is ibuprofen used for?

Ibuprofen is a medication with analgesic (for pain), antitheretic (for fever) and, unlike paracetamol, also anti-inflammatory.

It is indicated to reduce mild or moderate pain with an inflammatory component such as otitis, dental pain or reduce osteoarticular pain and swelling due to an injury or fracture. Also for feverish conditions, relieve headache or throat irritation.

It is not recommended for use in children weighing less than 5 kilos, nor is it recommended to give when there is continued vomiting or gastroenteritis.

Alternatives to Dalsy

Health recalls that there are currently 21 other medications with the same composition and dosage that can supplant Dalsy. Very important: always check with your pediatrician or pharmacist before administering any medication to children, and ensure the recommended dose..

Other options:

  • Paracetamol: has the same effect as ibuprofen except the anti-inflammatory action. It is indicated for moderate pain, sore throat, muscle pain and injuries such as sprains or sprains. Also for mild headache or fever.

  • Generic (ibuprofen): There are generic medicines with ibuprofen, the same active ingredient as Dalsy in the same doses for children with sweet, banana and strawberry flavor, although they do not have the same orange and color flavor as Dalsy.

  • 4% Dalsy: This option is not in short supply. This dispensation is 4g of ibupofrene in 100 ml, which means that it has twice ibuprofen in the same volume, that is to say more concentrated. With this in mind, what we should do is calculate the dose in half. For example, if the recommended dose according to your baby's leaflet is 3 ml for the 2%, we must give 1.5 ml of the 4%.

  • Nurofen (pediatric) and Junifen, both sold in packs of 20 and 40 mg / ml

  • Gelophen in concentrations of 2% and 4%: also ibuprofen.

  • Also ibuprofen in syrup: Pirexin, Paidofebril, Iblasin and Ibupirac (children from the year) Available in the same concentration of 20 mg / ml.

Dalsy's dye controversy

In 2016, Dalsy made headlines because of a controversy that arose around one of its components: the orange-yellow dye (E-110). It was said that ibuprofen syrup 'Dalsy' could be omitting some side effects related to the dye in the package leaflet.

After the controversy raised, it was announced that the prospectus would not be modified in relation to the dye and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products issued a statement on the safety of the drug:

The content of E-110 dye in the drug Dalsy 20 mg / ml, oral suspension, makes it highly unlikely that doses that are close to the acceptable daily intake for the content of this dye in food will be reached. Therefore, it is considered that the information currently contained in the data sheet, labeling and leaflet of the medication is adequate and that there is no reason for the alarm.
