"Experiment shares", children who share on World Food Day

This morning I listened to how a third of the food produced in the world ends up in the garbage can and with the tons of food that wasted it could feed the nearly one billion people who suffer from hunger in the world. How? Sharing, something that children have very clear.

World Food Day is celebrated on October 16 of each year, proclaimed in 1979 by the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The objective of this date is to raise awareness about the global food problem and strengthen solidarity in the fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

Within the framework of World Food Day, the NGO Action Against Hunger has prepared this video starring children which shows that, in a world where we produce twice as much food as we need, sharing is the reasonable response to famine.

I was delighted to see the "experiment" in which children are left alone (some, very small) in pairs, each with a plate in front where they are supposed to have the snack, and they must give account of it until, supposedly , come back to take some pictures.

But only one of each couple of children has a sandwich on his plate, the other discovers his empty plate. Virtually without a word, children who have a sandwich share it with their partner, even someone gives you the choice “which one do you want?”. Even the youngest, with difficulty breaking the sandwich, manage to do so and get them to eat two instead of just one.

We saw recently that babies at 15 months already have a sense of altruism with experiments similar to this, and this is demonstrated by the children in the video, who probably do not even know each other, sharing their food naturally.

The message intended to convey Action Against Hunger is clear, appears at the end of the video and I leave you with him in this World Food Day:

In a world with the capacity to feed double its population 3.5 million children continue to die from acute malnutrition every year. We should learn.
