Ecopilas will contribute in 2012 to turn the Vuelta into the most sustainable cycling competition in Europe

In 2000 the Foundation for the Environmental Management of Pilas was established Ecopilas. This is a response from the sector of batteries to the principle of joint responsibility of producers on the management of waste derived from these products once they reach the end of their useful life. The founders of Ecopilas represent 70% of the sector in Spain. The board is made up of: Sony Spain, Philips Ibérica, Energizer, Kodak, Saft Batteries, Ecotic Foundation and Anged (National Association of Large Distribution Companies).

After the excellent results obtained by Ecopilas for the sponsorship of the Classification Award for Vuelta a España 2011, the Foundation has renewed its commitment to the cycling round in 2012. And so Ecopilas will contribute another year to convert the Cycle Tour into A very sustainable sports competition.

He sport is an excellent means for promoting environmental awareness and during the 21 days of which the Lap 2012, Ecopilas will disseminate the importance of citizens' work in the selective collection and proper environmental management of batteries at the end of their useful life.

La Vuelta 2012 has just started in Pamplona in a spectacular team time trial that had all the chiquillería of the capital Navarra pending the hard-working athletes who threw themselves through the streets of the confinement in a frantic pedaling. Already at that stage Ecopilas included, as it will do during all the stages, informative stands at each of the beginning and end of the stage in which it will distribute mini-collectors of batteries among all those interested.

In addition, as a novelty this year, the Tour will feature the presence of Recycling Classroom. This Mobile Classroom of 70 square meters will be located at the goal of all stages in order to spread among the attendees the importance of recycling electrical and electronic equipment and used batteries.

Ecopilas will also deliver the trophies and impose the green jersey in eight stages of the cycling round. We have looked at your web page to see that the stages are those between Andorra and Barcelona, on August 26; Vilagarcía de Arousa and the Mirador de Ézaro, on 30; Santiago de Compostela y Ferrol, 31; and the mountain stages to be played between Palas de Rei and Puerto de Ancares, on September 1; La Robla and the lakes of Covadonga, day 2; Gijón and Valgrande-Pajares, the 3; and the stage between La Faisanera Golf in Segovia and the Ball of the World on September 8.

It is a great initiative of Ecopilas that surely attracts the attention of the little ones by teaching them to be responsible in the use of batteries. And it is that every time we have more devices that use these batteries at home, from the remote controls (which we once used the parents), to the console controls, through the mice, cameras, flashlights, etc. .

In 2011, Ecopilas broke a new record for collecting used batteries by removing 3,031 tons of this waste throughout Spain, 21% more than in 2010. This is the equivalent of 34% of the batteries that manufacturers put to the sale in 2011. The year 2012 is not going badly and 1,600 tons have already been collected until June 2012. This way you can say that This environmental Foundation exceeds the expectations of environmental waste management regulations which sets the objective of selectively collecting the equivalent of 25% of the batteries that are put on sale every year.
