An eight-year-old boy with autism exposes his drawings in Madrid

Erik is only eight years old but his drawings are the center of attention in the exhibition 'Generators of Imagination' that until December 15 can be visited on Calle Pozas, 6 in Madrid, thanks to the 'Visual Learners' project.

He lives with his family in Hamburg, and his mother recognizes that since he was three he likes to draw. Looking at his drawings one would say that the stroke of this little one is as precise as his look, since you can discover all the details.

And is that Erik thinks about images (like most people with autism) so he can reflect features and elements of the environment, in which others may not repair. He runs stories with his drawings, puts feelings to his characters. His mother highlights the didactic component of the works because, as he says, 'Now my mom knows how a generator works or dad has discovered that there are many kinds of fire extinguishers'.

He is a child who loves to play and learn. He has autism, but also a huge desire to show society that, like all people, it deserves a chance

Anabel Cornago in her role as a proud mom, tells us about the evolution in Erik's drawings, and reflects on their meaning: they represent what she sees and what interests her most.

In Peques and Más we already know Anabel because she is one of the promoters of the group against the myths of autism, and she has also created together with other people the Stories and songs with pictograms.

I loved this phrase that demonstrates commitment and sensitivity: 'Erik represents the effort of thousands of children with autism who struggle every day to strengthen their skills and compensate for their deficits'.

The show "Imagination generators" collect 30 drawings of the series light poles, fire extinguishers, generators and means of transport. You can visit until December 15 and the schedule is Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 9 pm, between Friday and Sunday you can choose the visiting hours by contacting [email protected].

Visual learners

This is a project promoted by the young Miriam Reyes, the lines of action that it establishes are from the exhibition of works of art made by people with autism, to artistic creation workshops for boys and girls with autism, through social awareness campaigns through art.

Miriam tells us that people with autism are visual learners: his preferred route in learning is visual, so his drawing skills are above average.

We want to congratulate Erik for those great drawings he makes with care, and that of course deserve to be visited. Congratulations to Anabel for all the time and effort she dedicates to her son and the projects, and also to Miriam for her fantastic initiative.
